With the protection of our fragile Earth at the heart of our ethos we formed the Green Team here at Montagne Jeunesse. A small but dedicated band of volunteers drawn from all across the company we research and develop ideas which will help reduce the amount of energy and resources we use to keep the Green Barn running. Just one simple action was to replace all the desktop printers with one communal unit for each office which has saved on electricity, inks and paper.
Outside we have also started to take positive steps with the land surrounding the Green Barn. Rather than have neatly mown lawns like you will see at most companies we let the grass grow. It develops into a wonderful meadow that is positively teeming with wildlife of all shapes and sizes. Our list of species seen on our site boasts nearly seventy different types of birds, butterflies and moths and almost forty types of wildflower all in addition to the wild rabbits. So much more interesting than a plain old mowed lawn.
We have however cut a path through the grass so that we can all enjoy a stroll round the grounds and appreciate all that nature has given us here on the site. This is all the more remarkable when you think that the site of the Green Barn was once a huge chemical factory!
The team also have plans to dig a pond on the site which will further increase the biodiversity at the Green Barn. To assist us with the pond project we will be working together with the eco team from a Swansea primary school who will use it for research and will be able to come for visits in future years along with other local schools to use the pond for educational purposes.
If you have any ideas which you think we could use here at Montagne Jeunesse please let us know.
